Day 7

!!!

Colossians

The town of Colosse was situated in what is now Turkey. The letter was written by the Apostle Paul to Christians struggling to hold firm to their faith. It was written about thirty years after the resurrection of Jesus. Paul was writing from prison in Rome. [AD 60]

Colossians 3:12-17 (NLT)

12 Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 You must make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are all called to live in peace. And always be thankful. 16 Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, all the while giving thanks through him to God the Father.

Yesterday we read about things that would have to go if our lives were to reflect something of what Jesus was like. Today we read about the positive things that we need to replace the bad things with. The Apostle says that we need to be proactive—we need to do something!

Å             Your life changed spiritually and emotionally when you turned to follow Jesus [v1-4].

Þ             Think—about what difference believing in Jesus makes. How have I really  changed?

Å             Verses 5-9—Now get rid of things that do not fit with being in Jesus company.

Þ             Think—which of these in the list really need addressing in my own life? Pray about them now!

Å             Having taken some negative things away—there are positive things to put back [v10-11]

Þ             Think—How do I do this?

Þ             Think—The passage [v10] says that we need to learn more and more about Christ—how am I going to do this?

Å             Verse 11—Is Jesus all that matters to me?
