Fair Trade at Wilford

The Spring Sale
is on Saturday 27 February

10 am to 3 pm - Wilford church hall

The Autumn sale day had many new gift items - and was a great opportunity to pick up fairly traded goods.  The summer Holiday Club had a shop as usual and planning for the planning for our stock clearance sale has been underway since Christmas.  Now it's here - so come along and get fair trade food, gifts, jewellery, cards, wrapping paper and lots more.  There'll also be a coffee shop serving light lunches and homemade cakes.

You can buy some of the same products all year round.  After a Sunday morning service once a month, the main hall is filled with gifts, fashion, cards, decorations, toys, jewellery.

Fairly traded gifts, cards, clothes and food
benefits those producers in poorer countries directly

If you have visited the Fairtrade stall over the past few weeks you may have noticed a catalogue called “Created”. This is not a new Fairtrade group, it's the new name for Tearcraft.
Tearcraft held discussions as a team and with local high street businesses who wanted to co-brand with someone who gave them credibility in the fair trade marketplace. They questioned how “Tearcraft” as a name connected to what they said they were all about. They were also having conversations with long term supporters and sellers who were expressing the view that the name Tearcraft only made sense when described as being a part of Tearfund. As Tearfund was generally then described in charity terms, the products were quickly becoming linked in conversation to charity and fundraising.

In fact, Tearcraft has very different aims – those of bringing the dignity of employment and fair wages to those with skills to share. After a process of considering different options and getting feedback from others, they settled on the word “Created” for their new brandname. This really reflects the individual, handcrafted nature of the gifts that they sell. It connects to both the creativity of the artisans and the creative God who makes this all possible. It underlines that there is a person and a story behind each product because these items are not just made or manufactured, they are created. The logo original was literally hand drawn rather than being a computer-generated type-face and so too expresses the individuality of the goods that are sold.

Come and ask us about the values behind this new brand. We'll be glad to show what it can offer to you too.
