On one level, the only evidence that the 2008
holiday club happened is the three faded rectangles of grass on the
paddock. But the real, hidden evidence is much more
significant. Over one hundred team members served selflessly, with
energy and enthusiasm, both in up-front and behind-the-scenes roles.
Over 280 children came. It was wonderful to see children who, at
the start of the week, were a little unsure about coming but thereafter
ran to the registration tables with beaming smiles.
Chants were shouted, songs sung, puppets applauded, talks listened to
with rapt attention, verses from the bible learnt, worksheets finished,
sports enjoyed, masterpieces created, challenges completed, faces flanned,
the soap opera performed and the meercat dance well and truly danced.
A large number came to the BBQ and 800 meals were served. The
fair-trade shop and café were active all week making a difference in the
world.
Over sixty young people attended the evening programme and their
response was often heartfelt and deeply moving.
Thank you to everyone who helped and who prayed. Let's continue
to pray for the impact of this year's holiday club and for the planning
for next year's; that we would see the kingdom of God impact the lives of
children and young people in our parish and beyond.
