SOUTH WILFORD ENDOWED CE VA PRIMARY SCHOOL

ADMISSIONS 2007/2008

The Governors invite applications for admission of children who will be entering school for the first time during the school year in which they reach the age of five.
Parents should make formal application between 3rd November 2006 and 15th December 2006, regardless of when their child is due to actually join the school during this year.
The children will be admitted in two groups, depending on the child’s actual date of birth. Those born during September to December inclusive begin in September. It is the Governors intention that those born from the beginning of January until the end of the school year begin in January.
The number of places available for first admission is 42. If more children wish to come than there are places available, then the Governors will allocate places according to the following scheme:

 Foundation Places
Children living in the ancient Church Parish of Wilford which includes the LEA designated catchment area. If there are more applications for Foundation places that are available, then the criteria listed below will apply. (A map of the Foundation area is available for viewing in the school office or following this LINK.)

 Open Places
Any remaining places not required as Foundation places may be applied for by parents who wish their children to receive religious education in accordance with the principles and practices of the Church of England and to receive their education in a Christian school.

If there are more applications that places available then the criteria listed below will be applied in rank order. Should there be more applicants in categories 1,2 & 3 below, than there are places available, the allocation will be made applying category 4 below to each category.

 Criteria if over subscribed
1.
Whether the parents have regularly and frequently worshipped at a Church of England Church and for how long they have done so. (A faith reference will be taken from the relevant Church leader*.)
2.
Whether or not the child has a brother or sister in school at the time of entering school.
3.
Whether the parents are practising members of a Church participating in “Churches Together in England **”. (A faith reference will be taken from the relevant Church leader*.)
4.
Where the child lives in relationship to the school, “as the crow flies”.

The above criteria will be overridden and a place offered if an applicant can establish any of the following:

bulletPupils looked after by the Local Authority (Children in Public Care) for whom a specific school has been identified in their Personal Education Plan,
bulletPupils with Special Educational Needs where the school is named in the child’s statement.

The above criteria may be overridden and a place offered if an applicant can establish any of the following:

bulletPupils with Special Educational Needs that can only be met at a specific school (e.g. where  the school is host to specialist provision),
bulletchildren of travellers, pupils with exceptional medical, mobility, or social grounds that can only be met at a specific school.

Applications in these categories must be supported by a statement in writing from a doctor, social worker or other relevant professional. This is necessary because you will be asking the Admitting Authority to assess your child as having a stronger case than other children. Each case will be considered on its merits by the Chair of Governors (or his nominated representative) in consultation with the Local Authority and Diocese of Southwell.

Should oversubscription occur and the number of applications exceed the number of available places in our Reception age group, a waiting list will be drawn up and places offered if and when vacancies occur, with priority given in accordance with the admissions criteria listed above. This waiting list will operate in line with the LEA co-ordinated scheme.
Late applications will be considered and places offered, if and when there are vacancies, with priority given in accordance with the admissions criteria stated above.
Application should be made on the LEA form and South Wilford Voluntary Aided School supplementary form which must be returned by 12.00 noon on 15th December 2006.
Parents will be notified by 16th April 2007 of the result of their application together with information regarding arrangements for any appeal against the Governors’ decision.

*A faith reference will be taken up to test parental commitment to the life and worship of the Church (Churches Together in England **). This will involve a proforma being sent to the Priest, Minister or other religious leader with a judgement, on a five point scale, regarding such parental involvement. The form will also include a section for the Priest, Minister or other religious leader, to complete any general comments which might be helpful to the admissions panel.
